Encinitas
Our Encinitas Campus is located in the beautiful neighborhood surrounding Ocean Knoll Elementary School. The entire school serves children 2-5 years of age in 2 classrooms. We have a total of 36 children at school each day.
Rooms
Guppy Room
When families enter our school in the Guppy Room, we are very attuned to getting to know each child intimately as a unique individual. We have an immense respect for each one of these little beings and for everything he or she is learning, at every moment in the world. For many children and families, this is their first experience in a school setting and we work hard to facilitate children and families' development as they begin to broaden their world to include our community. We are here to provide children a safe base from which to explore this new environment.
In the Guppy Room, we strive to educate the whole child, by providing children many opportunities to develop in all domains: social, emotional, physical, and cognitive. As our children work to gain a sense of autonomy, our intentional environment, purposeful planning, and engaged teachers facilitate this development. Children in this room strive to master taking turns, being part of a group, potty training, exerting their independence, climbing, jumping, running, moving, listening to books, singing songs, exploring the outdoors, and experimenting with new experiences and materials. They do this all within the context of relationships. Here, relationships are at the core of everything we do. And within these supportive relationships, we watch children thrive. We see them make friends, create pieces of artwork, use their imaginations in dramatic play, and climb to the highest point, as they announce to the world, "I can do it!"
Mixed Age Preschools
Children typically spend two years in our Preschool Room. Here, their world expands, becoming more interconnected and deep. They are now ready to explore, investigate, and wonder about the larger world around them. As this development naturally occurs, our curriculum begins to look more outward. We use projects in a more in-depth manner to study, question, understand, and affect the world around us. Our Group Times are longer, with more interactive dialogue and deeper connections to our shared experiences. The environment and materials in it are more complex and invite active exploration and investigation, with space and time to delve deeply into play. There is an art/construction room for building, tinkering, and making imagined creations come to life. There is ample space for dramatic play as children's inner fantasies are explored and their social skills are refined. And, there is a natural flow from inside to outside, as children spend a significant portion of the day in our outdoor classroom.
In a mixed-age environment, such as our preschool room, the youngest learn from watching the eldest, and the eldest learn from teaching the youngest. We strengthen the bonds of community. As Dr. Lilian Katz, an early childhood education guru says, "Mixed-age grouping resembles family and neighborhood groupings, which throughout history have informally provided much of children's socialization and education" (from The Case for Mixed-Age Groupings in Early Education, 1990). In addition, we divide the children into two groups during our teacher-directed times, such as Morning Meetings, Enrichment, and Project-Based Learning for more focused, developmentally appropriate work. Our standards, which come from the California Preschool Foundations, are woven throughout our day and include domains such as language and literacy, social/emotional development, mathematics, science, social science, visual and performing arts, and physical development.

I am a dedicated educator who brings a passion for creativity and a love for the outdoors into the classroom. I attended California State University, Long Beach, studying Theatre Arts, where I delved deep into the world of performance, stagecraft, and storytelling. My education in theatre has shaped my teaching approach, infusing lessons with elements of imagination, self-expression, and play. I believe that creativity plays a vital role in education, allowing students to explore their imaginations, develop critical thinking skills, and express themselves authentically. I strive to create a warm and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
I grew up in North County and live in Encinitas with my husband Brian and our son Archer. We love exploring the community, visiting local parks, beaches, and spending countless hours at the pool. I love that these experiences not only create lasting memories but also instill in Archer a sense of belonging and pride in his community.
I joined KBTS in 2019, as the lead teacher in their 3's classroom. With my passion for theatre, art, and the outdoors, I am dedicated to providing a well-rounded educational experience that inspires our students to become compassionate, imaginative, and confident individuals.

I have been working in the field of early childhood education for around 7 years. I always thought I would be doing something in the medical field, but in college I decided to join the early childhood education field. I started working in the MiraCosta Child Development Center and that is when I realized Early Childhood Education was my passion. I loved the curiosity of the children and education was my passion. I enjoyed watching them learn and forming individual relationships with them.
Through my years of experience and education, I have come to believe
that having a deep respect for each individual child is at the heart of every good program. I believe we need to provide every child with the time and space to develop at his or her own pace. I feel strongly that learning is everywhere. Children do not only learn in the confines of a classroom. We need to provide children with outdoor experiences to develop a sense of respect for our environment.
Also, I believe that children learn best when they are part of a community in which they are valued and in which they feel invested. I am so excited to be part of this community and partner with each of you as we welcome your children into this space.

Enrichment (Music)
Mr. Troy has been teaching music at Kids by The Sea for years. We are lucky to have him come to visit us every Monday to teach music to the children. We love his energy, sense of humor, and the endless quantity and variety of instruments he introduces to us and lets the children play.

Preschool Teacher
I am passionate about teaching young children. I have been in the field for 10 years and have my Bachelor of Arts in Child Development. After living overseas in Japan for 6 years, my husband and I are now settled in North County with our 3 pugs. We enjoy traveling, finding new places to eat, leisure hikes, and I love to photograph it all. When I am not out and about I enjoy simple things at home like reading and crocheting.
My greatest desire is supporting young children so they can feel valued, capable and confident. I value each child’s learning process and their development through exploration and meaningful experiences. My excitement lies in teaching children through an emergent curriculum that follows the interests and natural curiosity of the child. Overall, my goal is to build strong relationships with children and families so I can best support the development and growth of the family unit. I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing community of families and staff at Kids by the Sea.
